FAQs

nib exclusive offers

What is the exclusive Tend offer for eligible nib members?

If you meet the eligibility criteria and have enrolled with Tend you will be entitled to unlimited GP consultations for 12 months from the date of your first GP consultation. You will not be required to submit any claims or be required to make any co-payment. The offer also includes one annual health check and one annual influenza vaccination.

Using Tend

What happens if I need to see a GP or nurse face to face?

Up to 70% of consultations can be provided online but if needed, you can also see a GP or nurse in person at Tend’s new physical clinic at 317 New North Road, Kingsland, Auckland 1021.

What happens if the GP prescribes medication?

Tend can issue prescriptions for many medications through online consultations. To get a prescription, you’ll need to see a Tend doctor so we can understand your medical condition and share with you what your treatment options are. In some cases, you may need to visit the clinic before we can issue your prescription. For prescriptions with Tend, simply choose the pharmacy you’d like it sent to and they’ll have your medication ready for you to pick up.

If you’ve already had a prescription from a Tend doctor, you can get a ‘repeat’ for the same medication through your Tend app. When you enrol with Tend, there’s no charge for a repeat prescription. Depending on your circumstances and the medication, we may request that you see a Tend doctor in-person before receiving a new prescription.

Will Tend have access to my medical notes?

If you enrol as a patient (which is a requirement to subscribe to this offer), Tend will request your past medical notes from your previous GP, with your consent. This will allow them to better tailor your healthcare experience. Plus if you’re enrolled, Tend has an amazing feature that allows you to access your personal health information and data at the touch of a button, anytime, anywhere.

When can I access Tend's services?

Online consultations are available weekdays from 7am to 8pm and weekends from 8.30am to 4.30pm. In-person consultations will also be available at Tend's clinic weekdays between 7am to 5pm. If it's for an emergency, call 111 or go to an A&E or hospital emergency department immediately.

How does Tend refer me for tests, specialist reviews or procedures?

Referrals work just as they would with your normal GP. Tend will be able to offer a variety of procedures at their physical clinic in Kingsland, Auckland such as blood tests, smears, immunisations or minor surgery.

Why do I have to enter my credit/debit card details?

The Tend app requires a credit/debit card when you make a booking, but nib will be paying for you to have unlimited consultations during your subscription period (with no co-payments required). Please note, you may see a $1 pending charge on your bank statement. This is a temporary authorisation charge to confirm your card is valid and will be refunded. Bank processing times can vary and the charge may take up to ten days to be credited back to your bank account.

Will my nib health insurance plan cover the cost of the Tend offer?

Yes, the GP benefit on your health insurance plan will cover the cost of the 12-month subscription for Tend if you enrol by 31 March 2021. This means you won’t be able to claim other things under your GP benefit during your policy year.

Can I still enrol with another GP if I have enrolled with Tend and taken up the unlimited 12 month offer?

In New Zealand you can only be enrolled with one GP. That means if you have taken up the Tend unlimited 12 month offer, Tend will be your primary healthcare provider. If you choose to enrol with another GP during the 12 months, your Tend offer will end.

If I decide not to continue to have Tend as my primary healthcare provider, will nib still cover me for GP consultations?

Yes, but it will be a prorated amount based on when you enrolled with Tend and started your unlimited GP offer. For example, if $300 was deducted from your nib GP consultation benefit when you enrolled with Tend and you enrol with another healthcare provider after 6 months, you’ll have $150 reinstated to your nib health insurance plan for GP consultations.

Can I book who I want to see and when I want to see them?

You can choose any available appointment with any available GP using Tend’s easy online booking tool. This has a bio and photo of each Tend GP.

Do I have to use video during my appointment?

No – it will be your choice as to whether you enable video. If you’d prefer not to use video you can use audio only.

Where do I go for technical support?

For technical support issues, you can contact Tend support directly through the support page on the app.

Switching to Tend

What does it mean if I enrol with Tend?

In New Zealand you can only enrol with one GP as your primary health provider. If you choose to enrol with Tend, they will become your primary health care provider. Note that there is no charge to enrol with Tend.

Being enrolled with Tend comes with lots of great benefits, including:

  • Access to prevention programmes such as breast screening and cervical screening
  • Access to your personal health information and data at the touch of a button, anytime, anywhere.
  • Completely secure and private service
  • E-prescriptions and refills, sent to a pharmacy for you to pick up or delivered to your home.

If you don’t enrol with Tend, you’ll be considered as a casual user and a payment for your consultations will be required which you can claim afterwards from nib subject to your policy benefit availability.

If I see Tend for a casual appointment will my consultation notes be passed on to my regular GP?

Consultation notes will only be passed to the GP you’ve enrolled with if you consent.

Protecting Your Privacy

Is the information I provide to Tend shared with nib?

Tend will not share any medical information with nib, without your consent. For more information please see Tend’s privacy policy. However, Tend will share information to nib to process a claim (including but not limited to date of consultations, date of birth and contact details) and facilitate validity of the Tend offer.
